SCHOOL IS OUT

This is a most wonderful group of children. They live in the La Colonia area of Sandy Bay. Their school has no running water and at the time this picture was taken they had no electricity but that might have been corrected by now.

But what does their future hold? They go home to houses which have water only about 2 hours each 8 days. ((Water is a critical issue. The lack of running water and no treatment for disinfection has plagued the island with death and despair. Dr. Patrick, from the Clinic of Hope, said “A child died from an intestinal disorder caused by water contamination. He should have lived to 2100 but now he is no more”. Miss Peggy RN, Clinic of Hope “One child just died by choking on worms from his stomach”. Approximately half of all patients treated at The Clinic of Hope have an aliment caused by the detestable water conditions. ))

Spartanburg Angels, a South Carolina USA non-profit organization is doing what they can with meager resources to help the children in this area. For more information about Spartanburg Angels go to their website at: www.spartanburgangels.com
